    Like a Child

    Teshuva works.

But it's not at all easy. And there comes a point in the teshuva process during which a person can fall so deeply down the rabbit hole of one's own shortcomings that the surrounding darkness becomes terrifyingly tangible. This is precisely the point at which Rabbeinu ז"ל insists that we focus in on the good points, the points of light, within ourselves. Thing is, if you're like me and the darkness is too deep to find the light all on your own, some outside help is certainly called for.

When chasidim gather together to farbreng and learn and lift each other up, there's almost nothing more empowering. So no matter what darkness the rest of the world tells you, no matter even what darkness you may tell yourself, you know you're loved. Of course, G!d and the Rebbe have got your back. But also, look to your friends; other chasidim. Trust me, I know how much this helps, from personal experience. And music. Let at least this song be a tiny bit of support because after all, whatever your challenge of the moment may be, you got this.

    We couldn’t see it
‘Cause we let the hazel [ ' haze all ' :'ק ] in on us
    We could feel it, though
And we needed more time to adjust
    I’m only grateful
For all the clues that we could touch
    We couldn’t see it
    But we could feel it

    This is awareness
This isn’t who we were before
    We can feel it, though
That we should still be so much more
    We broke a universe
That we might piece by piece restore
    We couldn’t see it
    But we could feel it

    Schooled in every grace
We blew it all in one gray night
    We hated everything we did
At least we did it right on time, right?
When the darkness comes, it’s time to dilate for the light
Time to dilate for the light when the darkness comes

    You couldn’t help it
And you didn’t know you wanted to
    We held each other open
When they tried blinding me to you
    It’s only natural
To keep on looking for the truth
    You couldn’t see it
    But you could feel it

    Schooled in every grace…

Let’s go stare at the view of our ruins from way up high
And show me how on the ground, it’s a trick of the eye
‘Cause if you can behold it, there’s gotta be light

    Schooled in every grace…
